January 27 2007, day 3

Cammy just does not like the heat, and it was super hot today. We walked later than usual. It was almost dark when we returned home. But after this swim, Cammy and Abby (who does not really enjoy letting go of the earth beneath her paws!) needed a bath.

Day 3

Kate French is a pretty girl who is 3 years old. Her Mum, Melissa, is a student at Central Queensland University. She is studying for a degree in human resources. She had a baby last year so she is doing her degree part time.

This handsome fella is Brandon Jones who is 6-1/2 years old.
Brandon lives in Gladstone. His Mum, Vanessa, is a student RN. His Dad is from Colombia.
We had lunch at the Yacht Club with other students - all of mature age with children and a couple of us have grandchildren too.
Brandon told me that he likes going fishing with his Dad. "We only catch small ones. And sometimes none at all." How refreshing it is to talk to a truthful fisherman without the anecdotal 'one that got away'.

January 26 2007

After the rain, mushrooms appear in the grass. They look like golf balls from a distance.

Is it a golf ball or mushroom? Tony is determined to hit it to kingdom come - he must be a mad Scot.

Today is Australia Day. It is not such a big deal here - not like July 4 in the USA. I hung out a little flag, but most people are just happy for the day off work to visit the beach, have a barbeque or catch up with projects.

I am lucky to live in this lovely country.

The fire hut.

I love the way the reflection of the posts echo the shape of the stairs.

My morning walks with Westies, Cammy and Abby, are the best. The day is soft, moist, cool and the page is waiting to be
written.
Here, at the Gladstone Marina, the tide is low, a soft breeze stirs the reflections, softening the hard, straight lines.

We call the shots because we're cute.
